The Rosary

For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them."

Matt. 18:20

We were fortunate to be at the Church of the Nativity’s fall fest this past Saturday.  Beautiful weather, good food, and lots of great people.  It’s always fun to spread the word about St. Michael Academy and meet prospective families. One of our prospective families dropped by with his parents.  We had just seen them at our feast day celebration at Mother Teresa Catholic Church the day before and it was wonderful to see them again.  I asked him how long it would take him to get to school next year. “Well, you can exactly get in one rosary.” he responded. I smiled. A one rosary kind of commute! I like that. Twenty minutes.  Isn’t that a wonderful way of looking at it?

October is the month of the rosary.  It is widely believed that in 1214 St. Dominic had a vision of Mary. She is said to have presented him with the rosary, both the beads and the prayers to be prayed.  The rosary is a great way to meditate on the life of our Lord.

When I was young I used to dread our nightly family rosary.  It’s was so boring, so repetitive.

As I got older, the rosary became my go to prayer.  I started praying a decade here and there throughout the day in college and law school.  It only takes about 2 ½ minutes to pray a decade.  That I can do.  Little by little, I started adding decades.  This year, I have incorporated the entire rosary with my husband on our evening walks.  It helps me to focus on what’s important, to enter into Christ’s life.  I offer different decades for our children, various prayer intentions, and for the sucess of our SMA community.  I often pray it with Bishop Barron on the Halo app.  He always has amazing insights into each mystery.

I invite each of our families to join us in praying the rosary this month of October.  Please pray for our leadership team, our Board of Trustees, our future teachers, and our future families and students. Let us request the Blessed Mother’s intercession as we move forward with our beautiful school.

May the Lord richly bless you in the week ahead.

Yours in Christ,

Shana Druffner
